Artist Alley

If you are interested in a booth at Artists Alley this year, please click here to fill out our request form!

Table Number and Cost

Artists' Alley tables can be purchased for $40. Artists will be invoiced for this amount after their application has been accepted. With their application, Artists will have a choice of purchasing their pre-registration (up to three registrations) at a discounted rate along with their table. Artists who have already pre-registered, or who have submitted for a panel, will also be able to note that on the application.

Please note all Artists must be pre-registered in order to be eligible for our Artists' Alley--any applications that are not purchasing a registration or who are not listed in our pre-registration database will be denied.

Tekkoshocon 2010 Artists' Alley Rules

These rules supersede and take precedence over any existing Tekkoshocon, Inc. Artists' Alley rules as well as any forum or email advice. Artists assume full responsibility for reading these rules in full and, by submitting an application for a table in the 2010 Alley, agree to be legally bound by them. Questions can be directed to artists@tekkoshocon.com or posted in the forum.

Rules are copyright 2010 Tekkoshocon INC. All rights reserved. May not be reused or duplicated without permission.

The "artist" as defined in these rules, refers in specific instances to the person purchasing the table. This individual is the primary party responsible for payment, table management, and is the sole contact that the Artists' Alley Department Head (AA DH) will email. This person is responsible for making sure that all artwork sold and displayed at his / her table meets all the guidelines established in these rules, and that everyone working at his / her table adheres to the rules, and is also responsible for any David L. Lawrence Convention Center (DLLCC) fines that may be accrued through any failures to do so. In short, this person bears the responsibility of keeping his / her table legal.

1) All regular Tekkoshocon VIII rules apply.

2) All artists must be at least eighteen (18) years of age as of February 1, 2010. All table assistants must be at least sixteen (16) years of age. A table employing minor (defined by the Commonwealth of PA as a person being under the age of 18) table assistants may not sell mature (18+) art.

3) All artists must be registered for the 2010 Tekkoshocon convention. Staff and Dealers are prohibited from participating in the Alley as Artist or Assistant. Artists may preregister before or when they receive notice of the acceptance of their application. If they have not preregistered and paid for their table within two weeks of that notification, their application will be discarded.

3) All artists and assistants must have valid Tekkoshocon 2010 Artist badges. Artists' Badges will be given upon registration with Artists' Alley staff. Up to five (5) people, including the Artist, can be registered to one table. However, no more than two (2) people may be behind any table at any time.

4) All artists must have a current Pennsylvania (PA) tax license. A copy must be submitted with the artists' payment, given to staff upon check in, and kept at the artists' table at all times. Artists failing to submit proof of tax license with payment will have their application discarded.

5) Artists are given one (1) six foot by thirty inches (6' x 30'') table draped with white linen and two chairs ONLY. Tables may NOT be moved by anyone other than convention center staff. Artists who do so will be responsible for the union fees. Artists who wish to use the space in an alternate manner, such as clothing racks or shelving, must make arrangements before the convention. Displays cannot extend beyond the space given into other artists' areas or into the aisles. Doors cannot be blocked under any circumstances. Nothing may be hung on the walls or stapled into the tables. The room must be left in a "broom-clean" condition. Leaving an exorbitant amount of trash in the Artists' area will result in the Artists' next application for any Tekkoshocon, INC, Artists' Alley or Dealers Room event being rejected.6) David L. Lawrence Center electricity is not provided by Tekkoshocon, INC. Any Artist found to be using electricity will be responsible for paying the fees associated with unauthorized use as well as be subject to removal from the alley without refund.

7) Artists are limited to two (2) adjoining tables in the Alley. No proxy selling is permitted. Artist must be present at the table at which his or her work is being sold. An Artist may not also have a Dealers' table.

8) Artists must be present or have an assistant present during all Artists' Alley operating hours.  Artists who fail to show, or who leave their table unmanned for over an hour without clearing it with AA staff, may be subject to their next application for any Tekkoshocon, INC Artists' Alley & Dealer Room events being discarded and a ban from said AA & DR events for up to two years.

9) All work sold in the Alley must be the Artists' own original and creative art. No commercial, resale, bootleg, 'pseudo-merchandise' (items designed to look similar to official merchandise or using official logos), or items copied by ANY means (electronic, freehand/sight-drawing, tracing, vectoring, etc) in ANY medium (print, writing, textile, sculpture or other) from artwork or merchandise that you do not hold the rights for is permitted. Plagiarism (the claiming of another's work as your own) is not tolerated.

The first of any of these offenses will result in a warning and the request for removal of the offending items. A second offense, or the failure to removal all items, will result in the ejection from Tekkoshocon VIII's Artists' Alley and a ban of up to two years from all Tekkoshocon, INC Artists' Alley and Dealer rooms.

-Please note this guide also applies to non-print mediums, such as plush, jewelry and clothing. Items may not be copied off an existing 3D model. If you have a question about whether your item is considered fanart, please email artists@tekkoshocon.com

10) Food is not permitted to be sold in the Artists' Alley.

11) Reconstructed art is permitted in small quantities on a case by case basis. Reconstructed art is defined as art created by using pieces of merchandise to create an entirely new item. These items must display considerable time and skill put into their construction. Examples include a gothic & lolita dress made out of licensed Pikachu (tm) print fabric, or a purse made out of Yu-Gi-Oh (tm) playing cards. Examples of items not allowed would be a bandana made out of licensed Pikachu (tm) print fabric, or a collage made of Yu-Gi-Oh (tm) stickers. All of these items must be reviewed by Artists' Alley Staff. Abuse of this clause will lead to its removal.

12) Mature art are items that are illegal to sell to minors, defined by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as individuals being under the age of 18. Mature art (18+) is defined as pieces displaying graphic or defined nudity or explicit sexuality or acts, graphic violence, excessive blood or other material not defined here deemed unsuitable for minors.

Absolutely no "shota-con" or "loli-con" art is permitted. It is acknowledged that age is subjective and difficult to define in art, however, all mature art must feature characters who either appear to be physically mature or are known by their fandoms to be over the age of 18. AA DH decision is final.

Mature art (18+) cannot be part of the Artists' main display. It must be kept separate in a clearly marked binder. Artist must photo ID all customers wishing to view. Artists must use their own discretion when putting their Mature (18+) portfolio together, but AA DH decision is final at con when determining if a questionable piece is Mature (18+).

It is illegal to sell to someone clearly purchasing Mature art for their minor friend. Artists have the right to refuse without condition any sale they are uncomfortable with.

13) Any questionable item not covered in the above stated rules is up to the discretion of Artists' Alley staff. AA DH decision is final. All requested items must be removed without exception. Failure to do so will result in removal from AA without refund, and the possibility of a two year ban from all Tekkoshocon, Inc related AA & dealer areas, decided on a case-by-case basis.

14)  Due to Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), all plush, and any other item that could be construed as a toy MUST be sold only as collectibles to attendees aged thirteen (13) or up.  A verbal warning or on table label is sufficient at this time to cover the product. The official website for the guidance, including FAQs, can be read here.

15) Artists assume full responsibility and liability for all items they sell. This includes (but is not limited to) the legality of any items including that of copyright or trademark infringement, the durability of all items, or any contracts made with customers including failures to follow through on commissions made at con. Tekkoshocon, INC, makes no guarantees and assumes no responsibility for legal action, theft, loss, or damages that may occur due to participation in the 2010 Alley.
